Matrix Hiking

The hiking ‘matrix’ is the holistic framework of the hiking experience. Further, with the ‘art’ of the matrix, we consider these outdoor activities eco-consciously, holistically, and as organically as possible. Building on this we look at trail etiquette, the importance of proper equipment, understanding possible hazards. and the potential impact we have on the environment.

‘Hiking’, according to Wikipedia, is a term referring to a long, vigorous walk, usually on trails or footpaths in the countryside. Here in Canada, the term ‘walking’ is used for shorter, particularly urban walks. In the UK and the Republic of Ireland, the word “walking” describes all forms of walking, whether it is a walk in the park or backpacking in the Alps. And in Australia, hiking is commonly called ‘bushwalking’ whereas in New Zealand, it can be called tramping.

Yet, despite the different terms and variations in meaning, all forms of walking have health benefits, fitness, and enjoyment in common.
