Loving-Kindness at the Heart of Mental Well-Being
Loving-kindness at the heart of mental well-being starts with your inner child. Entwined in the matrix with the heart is the mind and the soul of holistic well-being.
When the rational brain is the ruler, the emotional brain has nowhere to go but six-feet under. Digging out from a voice-less existence means changing some well-established paradigms but, as we learn from practice, it is possible.
The mind is a hotel with a thousand rooms. When I tilt my head a certain way, I think about certain things. When I tilt my head another way, I think about other things. If I sleep on the right side of my face, for example, I’d dream of a pale rose, the future, or a continental diner in Passaic, New Jersey. When I sleep on the left side of my face, I’d dream that a hand is squeezing my heart, that I’m in prison, or that I’m watching hockey at an airport bar, about to miss a flight.

Inner child meets inner adult/nurturing other
In the identity matrix, we have both inner child and inner adult. This is an essential soulful ‘other’, essential to empower mental health and realization of your authentic identity.
the 7 keys to help pave the path to holistic well-being
- consciousness, spirituality
- wisdom centre, meditation, being a true witness of consciousness
- having a voice, letting purification, harmony, intuition happen
- getting un-stuck, embracing compassion, balance, virtue, intentions
- knowing my core values, and finding place in the world
- letting creativity, imagination, emotions run their natural course
- be rooted, solidly grounded in my identity, nature, earth
I was floundering without these ~ still am seeking, but I am a heck of a lot stronger just having this checklist in place. Self-confidence, my inner empath and a better knowing/valuing of my place in the world is increasing in a corresponding way.
Mental health, for me, has involved a constant effort to stick to the plan or purpose — the one guided now, by my heart and soul, with the mind. It means reminding myself to step forward when the messages from within are saying, ‘step back, run or hide’.
This is an intentional plan of action with a set of empower tools.
As this flexible pattern becomes stronger, I am able to manage depression and social anxiety in more positive ways.
It feels good to stand taller and to be with an identity and ‘voice’ that are becoming more confident and genuine. It takes time and I have learned through consistent effort to be ok with that.
Courage is gradually taking up greater space in my way of being and fear is losing its stronghold. Courage comes through nurturing and nurturing can come from within or from others. Fear can similarity arise from a lack of having a Nurturing Other.
With, wisdom, courage and creativity, allowing vulnerability to encourage stepping outside the habitual box
Positive growth also takes a good dose of imagination and creativity. These are all gifts of wisdom. Wisdom involves an intuitive, empathetic connection with your ‘self’ and with the world and an aware attuning to both.
It is about being creatively inspired, delighted, motivated so that, in some way, transform ways of thinking, doing or feeling, for the better. We need confident voices and a natural respect for various means of communicating, sharing and balancing meaningful connections with the world.
Wisdom is about maintaining an open mind, a willingness to listen to others and your own wise intuitions. In turn, the narrative of your identity confidently evolves, authentically, according to your inner concept of your place-in-the-world.
Nurture, compassion, am attitude of gratitude and a growth mindset are essential in building confident voices and healthy places in the world.
